Digital Starlab Mobile Planetarium 1This inflatable dome planetarium uses a digital projector and laptop loaded with STARRY NIGHT DOME 7 software (Powerful enough to teach a college level astronomy class, but functional enough to demonstrate K-8 Earth Science Standards) to show student constellations, model the motion of celestial bodies, and actually travel to and view the night sky from other planets. It is sometimes hard to deliver your astronomy information over the "Oooohs" and "Aaaaahs", but we could definitely argue that as a sure sign of student engagement. FYI parents tend to get even more into this one than the kids do! Click the "DIGITAL STARLAB 1 RESERVATION REQUEST" button to request a 1 week reservation. Before reserving, be sure you will have a space with 12 foot high ceiling clearance, as the new Starlab will break through a drop ceiling (Trust me. I did this, and the maintenance department was not happy.), and at least 20 feet of clearance in any direction. Gyms and large atriums tend to be the best space to use the StarLab. The StarLab may not be used outdoors as humidity and dirt will damage the equipment. To make a reservation the teacher using the equipment must have attended a Digital Planetarium training; teachers can sign up by clicking the "DIGITAL PLANETARIUM TRAINING SIGN UP" button below. Also, please check the calendar below for Digital Starlab Mobile Planetarium #1 availability.
